Birth: Jun., 1836
Plain Township
Stark County
Ohio, USA
Death: Jul. 10, 1906
Kosciusko County
Indiana, USA

David was the son of Jehu and Elizabeth (Harter) Grubb of Stark County, Ohio, and was a minister there in the Church of the Brethren. David fought bravely for Ohio in the War Between the States. He enlisted in the 76th Regiment of the Ohio infantry on October 8, 1862. Because of his military service, he was unable to return to his ministry. He relocated to Indiana and worked as a farmer, carpenter and shoemaker.

David married Catherine Elizabeth "Lizzie" Witters on Sept. 23, 1871, in Elkhart county and they had two children living with them in Benton at the time of the 1880 census: Elmore, 7, and Sarah, 5. David's wife had already died at the time of the census, but David did not immediately re-marry although he had two children to raise.

Two years later, he married Mary Ann Rookstool on Dec. 31, 1882. David & Mary had four children listed on the 1900 census: Orrin, 16, Leola, 11, Vernie, 9, and Byron, 4. Wilma was born just three years later.
