— Paul A. Listopad of 63 Mabel Drive, West Middlesex (Shenango Township), passed away at 11:55 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 67.
Mr. Listopad was born Feb. 27, 1941, in Sharon, a son of the late Tony and Jean Ciechacki Listopad.
He was a 1958 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, and received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Youngstown State University and a master's degree in secondary education from Westminster College, New Wilmington.
Paul retired from the Hermitage School District, where he was a math teacher at Hickory High School for 38 years. He was also on the faculty at Youngstown State as a mathematics instructor and was a residency biostatistics instructor for three years at UPMC Horizon, Farrell.
He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex; and the Pennsylvania State and National Education associations.
Paul had a keen interest and vast knowledge of airplanes and enjoyed attending air shows as well as building model airplanes.
He was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan and, earlier in his life, enjoyed bowling and golfing. Vegetable gardening, reading and listening to music were his most recent hobbies.
He will be remembered by most as a passionate educator.
Surviving are: his wife at home, the former Elizabeth C. Markusic, whom he married Oct. 28, 1967, in Sts. Peter and Paul Croatian Catholic Church, Youngstown; a son, Michael A. Listopad and his wife Raedine, Sharpsville; a brother, Dr. Aaron J. Listopad and his wife Paula, Sharon; his mother-in-law, Mary E. Markusic, Youngstown; two nieces, Alesha Trudell and her husband Christian; and Ashley Weaver and her husband Kyle; and a nephew, Adam Listopad.
Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a nephew, Allen Listopad; and his father-in-law, Michael Markusic.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Paul A. Listopad Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Shenango Valley Foundation, 33 Chestnut Ave., Sharon 16146. This fund will benefit students who wish to pursue a degree in mathematics education.
