He joined the Brewington Baptist Church in Augusta and served as Sunday School Superintendent for 19 years. He was baptised by Rev. Bud Chandler. He united with the Morning Star Baptist Church and was a deacon at the time of his death.
He married Winnie Bonner. To this union five sons and two daughters were born. One daughter died at a very early age.
