Wilbert Saul Bennett BURNEY married married Daisy C. DANIELL on 13 March 1912 in Thomas County, Georgia. She was a daughter of Charles Henry DANIELL and Mary Melvina BAKER.
They had three children, Wilbert David, Jr., Herbert, and Louise.
Daniell family recollections and notes on some pictures name him as "Bennett Burney."
Daisy died 23 March 1920.
About 1923, Wilbert married Mary Belle NIX, daughter of Herbert B. and Dora NIX. Wilbert and Mary's only child was Wilma Irene, was born 24 July 1925.
1935 Florida Population Census lists W. S. Burney, Mary, David, Herbert, and Wilma living in King's Ferry in Nassau County.
Wilbert was murdered on 27 March 1937. As related by a grandson, Wilbert was involved in bootlegging moonshine, crossed someone, and was killed. His body was put in a truck which was pushed off a wharf in a Jacksonville shipyard and later pulled from the water by police.
Death certificate extracts: Wilbert Sol [sic] BURNEY was born 25 Mar 1887 in Duval County, Florida, and died 27 Mar 1937 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida at age 50 years and 2 days. He was a son of Robert BURNEY who was also born in Florida, Wilbert, a farmer who resided in Hilliard [Nassau County], Florida, was survived by his wife, Mary BURNEY. He was buried on 4 Apr 1937, in Hilliard.
In January 1939, Mary Belle BURNEY, married Johnnie Ellis Daniell, nephew of Wilbert's first wife, Daisy C. Daniell.
