Paul Merrimon Allison, of Davidsonville passed of heart failure at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Perry Point.
Mr. Allison served as a quartermaster in the Merchant Marine during World War II and received the Merchant Marine Emblem with war zone bars for the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Middle East.
He served as chief of police in Old Fort from 1947 to 1951. He then was chief deputy sheriff of McDowell County, N.C., from 1951 to 1958. He ran his own service station from 1958 to 1960 when he moved to Maryland to work security for Levitt and Sons in Bowie. He was later employed by the PG County Board of Education, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Allison was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Lothian, a member of the Mason for 50 years in Old Fort, and a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Sheriffs Association of McDowell County and Bowie.
On March 3, 1948, he married to Betty B. Allison. Also surviving are a daughter, Tanje A. Sears of Davidsonville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Lothian, where funeral services were held. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.
