The following bio came from the Barkers book "The Seven Families": Housewife. Married on Oct 12, 1871, according to Lithuanian records. Raised vegetables in Slobodka, kept boarders in the US. In Slobodka, she had a vegetable garden around the house and rented land across the road along the river to raise more. The house had two rooms, and she kept a cow, chickens and geese. The first vegetables went to the needy families. Once in the US, she helped others to immigrate and to become established. She enjoyed telling biblical stories and discussing current events. She was very orthodox in religion and way of life. When she died, her body was carried into the synagogue for services. A most unusual honor given only to women who exemplified themselves religiously and charitably.

Passed away at the house of her daughter Nessie Barker Popkin, in Freehold, NJ.

Gravesite Details

In June 2011, the stone was found to have been defaced with paint. I hired the cemetery workers to restore it, which turned out to be a significant task, given the length of time that the paint was on the stone. - Mark London
