OBIT 1:

Sarah M. Waddell was born 26 Aug 1832 in Mt. Vernon, Knox County, Ohio, and departed this life 15 Nov 1918, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 19 days. When a child she as received in the Methodist Episcopal church, ever remaining faithful to the discharge of her duties. She was united in marriage to John Watts 2 Feb 1852. They resided in Ohio for two years, afterward moving to Illinois for a year, from there they moved to Springfield, Keokuk County, Iowa, remaining there until 1873. They then took up their residence on a farm five miles southwest of Barnes City.

To this union were born thirteen children 10 sons and 3 daughters. Three children preceded her to the future world. George Douglas died in infancy, Robert Wilson died 9 Nov 1908, James Allen died 4 Apr 1916. Those surviving her are Charles Daniel, of Crescent, Iowa, Wilford Morgan of of Los Angeles, California, Morris Walker, of Payette, Idaho, Christie Miles of Alzada, Montana, William Franklin of Chicago, Illinois, John Edward and Louisa Ellan (Mrs. W.S.) Lash of What Cheer, and Sarah Elizabeth Anne (Mrs. J.W.) Jones, Alpha Sherman and Myrtle Matilda (Mrs. Howard) Riggs of Barnes City, Iowa. She had 48 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, John Watts, departed this life 15 July 1887. She remained on the farm until 8 Apr 1912, when she moved to Barnes City, living there the remainder of her days. Funeral services were held from the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. F.N. Byram, of Pella, Iowa, assisted by Rev. C. Cray Jones of the M.E. Church, and Rev. E. Rhodes of the Christian church. Interment was made in the Barnes City Cemetery.

Mrs Sarah Watts an aged and highly respected lady, after a lingering illness died at her home Friday morning, November 15. Her children were with her constantly and all that loving hands could do was done but death crept on apace and called her.

Funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the M E Church, Rev Byram of Pella officiating, assisted by Feverends Rhodes and Jones of Barnes City. Interment in Barnes City Cemetery.
