Mary was born in Chicago Illinois on March 29, 1885 to parents, Emma Jane and Judge, Jasper DeLos Ward.
In Chicago, Illinois Nov. 14, 1887 Mary married Frank Mason Brown born in Blue Hill, Maine. They moved to California where Frank was a State Senator of Northern California, San Joaquin County. And their first child Ward Brown was born.
Then they moved to Leadville, Colorado and were in the mining business.
After that they lived in Denver, Colorado where their second child, Frank Mason Brown was born.
Mary's husband Frank was a successful business man in Real Estate and wanted to build a railroad through the Grand Canyon to take coal from Arizona to Los Angles, California.
So he started the Denver, Colorado Canyon Pacific Railroad Company of which he was president. Frank was part of the surveying party. His boat flipped and he was thrown in a whirlpool and drowned. That was July 10 1889. His body was never found.
His youngest son Frank was only two at the time, and Frank's brother was twelve. At the time of his death Mary and the boys where in England visiting her sister.
Feb.3, 1892 Mary married Ephrain Coburn Gilman and they had a son Coburn
