(copied from Lytton Springs Cem. Book)
R.W.Andrews, an 85-year-old gentleman, died on Sept. 3, 1901. Robert W. Andrews was born in Virginia in 1816. By 1852 he had married Elizabeth Monroe & they lived in Alabama. Sometime after 1865, she died & left him with 6 children to care for. His eldest daughter Mary Strickland was left a widow & helped care for the younger children as well as her own.
In 1862 he signed on with Co. K, 45th Alabama Infantry & served until the end of the war.
His fellow soldiers described him as about 5'9" & weighing 150-160 lbs. He had dark hair & light blue eyes & was talkative by nature.
In 1871 the family came to Texas & Caldwell County. He was a farmer in the Luling area for 28 years but by 1899 had only a 26-year old mule & a dilapidated hack to his name & applied for his confederate pension.
Among the survivors at his death were his daughter Fannie Jackson & son George Andrews. Burial was in the Lytton Springs Cemetery. (kdb)
