MT. VERNON — Myron Dale Gilliam, 88, of West Frankfort and formerly of Texico, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin.
He was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Herod, to Otto and Addie (Burton) Gilliam.
He married Betty J. Voss on July 13, 1949, in Piggott, Ark., and she preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 1980. He married his second wife, Vera O'Neal Wicks Gilliam.
Myron was a Navy veteran who served in World War II. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge, American Legion Post #141, the VFW, AMVETS 1376 in Mt. Vernon and Union Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Wicks Gilliam of West Frankfort; a sister, Maxine Arneson of South Elgin; a stepson, Paul Wicks and wife Barbara of Hayden, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews, including Wendell Gilliam of Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Cloyd Merle, Clifford Gilliam and Lyndon Gilliam.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at Union Chapel Cemetery in Jefferson County with chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. A flag presentation service will be conducted by the chaplain of American Legion Post 141. Entombment will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery.
