BENSON S PHILBRICK: Hoquiam; aged 77yrs, died this morning at the home of his son Ed Philbrick. He had been failing for some time. MrPhilbrick would have been 74yrs old Feb 18th. He is survived by 5 sons: Ralph Philbrick-postmaster of this city, Ed Philbrick, AC Philbrick-Aberdeen, BS Philblrick-Hoquiam, CE Philbrick-Raymond. MrPhilbrick came to Hoquiam in 1889 & made his home here since that time. He was an architect & drew plans & superintended the construction of many buildings of this city, including the Hermans building at 1&H Streets. Of late years he has been engaged in the insurance business. MrPhilbrick was a veteran of the CivilWar, serving 4yrs with CoB 27th MI infantry. Funeral will be held Feb 12, Lincoln's Birthday from Pinnick's undertaking establishment.
WA--Aberdeen Daily World (11 Feb 1914)BENSON S PHILBRICK: Hoquiam (Special): All of the patriotic organization of this city will attend the funeral tomorrow afternoon of BensonS Philbrick, the Hoquiam pioneer & veteran of the CivilWar, who died yesterday morning at the home of his son, Ed Philbrick. The funeral service which will be held from the Presbyterian Church will be under the direction of the GAR of which MrPhilbrick was an honored member & the Odd Fellows. Members of the Sons of Veterans will serve as pall bearers. The burial of MrPhllbrick on Lincoln's birthday is significant in as much as he, while a soldier, was one of the squad detailed to guard the persons under suspcican as implicated in the plot to assassinate Lincoln. MrPhilbricks death was sudden. He had been ailing for some time but death was not thought near. He ate his breakfast as usualy yesterday morning, then went to his room & laid down on his bed & died.
