He was born on Dec. 29, 1923, in Grandfield, Oklahoma, to George Samuel & Iola (Barnes) Blankenship.
Ira proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, Gene LaDon; sisters, Ida Schoonover, Lena Hill, Mae Logan, Norma Porterfield, Susie Hardcastle and Corine Blankenship; brothers, Laurence, George Ernest, and Billy Don Blankenship.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Patty Jo Barnes & husband Mark, of Mustang, OK; grandchildren, Timothy & Christina Barnes, of Choctaw, OK; Mark & Cyndi Barnes, of Minco, OK; Robin & Scott Shelbourn, of OKC; Sarah Barnes, of Mustang, OK; Cary & Angie Blankenship, of Colierville, TN; and Wendy Simons, of Scottsdale, AZ; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing will be 12-8 p.m. Sunday and 4-8 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday.
Services to celebrate his life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at South Walker Church of Christ, 5217 W. Walker, with burial following at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
