Daniel Lytle Laid To Rest ~ Well Known Retired Citizen and War Veteran Buried in Linwood
Funeral services for the late Daniel Lytle, many years resident of Pana and Civil War Veteran, who died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Louis Lester. The First Methodist church conducted the services. A good attendance of relatives and friends to pay their last sad respects. Members of the church choir sang a number of the songs, favorites of the deceased, and the funeral discourse was given by Rev. H.F. Powell, pastor of the church. The floral offerings were very beautiful and in charge of Mrs. Clint Lesure, Mrs. Howard Toberman and Mrs. Floyd McKee. Funeral Director R.M. Kirkpatrick had charge of the internment that was made in Linwood cemetery in Pana, Illinois with these casket bearers: Ora Ross, Max Penwell, George A. Wittmann, Charles Anderson, Warren Penwell and Lyman Sallee.
Mr. Lytle was a native of Ohio, having been born in Pike County, November 5, 1845, and at death was aged 81 years and 26 days. He enlisted on May 24, 1864, in Company F, Regiment 137th, Illinois Infantry, and saw service with that contingent for about four months, being discharged on September 24, 1864. Following his discharge he was wedded to Sarah Wade on February 15, 1866, she dying in 1903. In 1906 Mr. Lytle was married to Mrs. Lydia Searles of Pana, IL, who preceded him in death in 1921. Deceased had always followed farming during his life and was a man of fine character, a good citizen and a true friend.
Surviving Mr. Lytle are the following children: Walter Lytle of Oconee, F.S. Lytle and Mrs. Louis Lester of Pana; brothers and sisters left to mourn his demise are; Mrs. Ella Husband of Griggsville, Illinois, Mrs. Hattie Goldman of Louisiana, Missouri, Mrs. Hester Maderis of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Walter Lytle of New Salem, IL. Two sons died some years ago, namely George and Louis.
