Three Delaware County women were killed early Monday when their car was struck by a street-sweeper truck and burst into flames northeast of Baltimore.
Police are continuing the accident investigation and have not released the victims' names, pending identification through dental records. But the women's identities were confirmed by Patricia Morrison, who said her granddaughter, Katarina Morrison, 19, was killed in the crash. The two other victims, Patricia Morrison said, were Lori Cardwell and her mother, Darlene Cardwell.
The three women were returning from Fort Campbell, Ky., where they attended a graduation ceremony for Chantz Green, who was Katarina Morrison's fiance, Patricia Morrison said yesterday. Lori and Darlene Cardwell helped raise Green, Patricia Morrison said.
The crash happened just before 5 a.m. at White Marsh and Honeygo Boulevards in White Marsh, Md., Cpl. Mike Hill of the Baltimore County Police said. The Chevrolet Aveo was turning left onto Honeygo Boulevard when a street sweeper turned right onto the street, crashing into the side of the car, Hill said. Both vehicles traveled 100 feet before stopping, and the car caught fire.
The street-sweeper driver suffered minor injuries, Hill said.
Investigators have not determined which vehicle had the right of way, Hill said.
