Peyton Samuel Pearson was the son of a Virginia Baptist minister, and was a farmer and master carpenter. He is associated with at least two structures standing near St. Albans today. See photographs.
Peyton Samuel Pearson was named for his grandfather Peyton P. Pearson and likely for the Rev. Samuel Griffin Mason.

News from Thornton Mountain, 18 Jul 2004: Providence Celebrated 170th Anniversary: According to documents and discussions with individuals, the earliest pastors included SAMUEL GRIFFIN MASON, John Turner and William Hankins. The church has given to the Baptist ministry by Gilbert Mason, J. R. Harrison, John W. Wade, Andrew Ramsey, Thomas P. Mason, Thomas P[eter] Pearson, Wayne Rigney and Rick Poland.
