Richard and his wife, Betty, died in a tragic car / train collision outside of Nampa, Idaho. Richard was in his third year of college at Northwest Nazarene College at the time of his death, and had obtained his minister's license.

On a Saturday evening, February 5th, 1966, Richard and Betty were on their way home after a dinner banquet in Caldwell for the youth of the church. They were the 3rd in a line of cars heading back to Nampa when they were struck by a speeding Northern Pacific train. The train was over 4 hours late due to snow and was speeding in excess of 80 MPH to make up time. The people in the cars preceding them had not seen the train, and were not even aware of the collision until later that evening. Unfortunately, there were no lights at the intersection, only the standard black and white X crossing, with this particular sign missing it's reflective tape.

Richard and Betty left behind four small children under the age of 9. Richard and Betty were my parents. I was only 4 years old.

Richard was survived by his mother, Elsie Goodwin / Coleman, 4 Siblings, Walter Jr., Gertie, Virginia, and Rolland, and his four children, Richard Coleman Jr., Jeri Lynn Coleman, Donna Coleman/Kurk, and Cynthia Jo Coleman/Price.

Sadly, his youngest daughter, Cynthia Jo Coleman/Price joined our parents in Heaven on October 23, 2011. His eldest daughter, Jeri Lynn, joined them on April 4, 2021.
