"MRS. M. J. BLOOMFIELD, 90 YEARS OLD, DIES"
"Mrs. Mary Jane McCallum Bloomfield, widow of the late John Miles Bloomfield, died at 7:15 a.m. today at the home of her granddaughert, Mrs. W. D. Mathis and Rev. Mathis. She would have been 91 years old on April 10 and was a native of Scotland. Mrs. Bloomfield came to the United States with her parents when she was two years old, residing in New Orleans until she moved to Biloxi about 48 years ago, upon the death of her husband. Mr. Bloomfield had been connected with large Cuban sugar factories, but made his residence in New Orleans. They were both prominent in various social and church activities in the Crescent City. Mr. Bloomfield was a 33rd degree Mason. Mrs. Bloomfield had been in very good health all her life. Until she suffered an accident in her home a month ago and broke her leg she had never been confined to bed except for short periods. In spite of her age she had been very busy about the house until her injury. She was a lifelong Presbyterian and was one of the organizers of the Biloxi Presbyterian Church. Besides her granddaughter, Mrs. Mathis with whom she lived at 915 Water Street, she leaves three great grandchildren, Mrs. Conrad Hawkins, Douglas and Bobby Mathis; three nieces, Mrs. A. N. Sherwood, Port Arthur, Texas, Mrs. J. A. Dowling, Biloxi, and Mrs. R. M. Hughes, Staten Island, N.Y; two nephews, Hugh McCallum, Marine Hospital, New Orleans, and Richmond Hughes, St. Louis. The funeral will be from the Bradford Parlors with services by the Rev. John Campbell at 10 a.m. tomorrow."
