"John William Balthrope, aged 73 years, died last night at ten o'clock at his residence across Back Bay. He was a native of London, MO., but had resided in this section for a number of years and (was) well and favorably known. He was a progressive farmer and had contributed much to the upbuilding of the section across the bay, which is now coming into prominence. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a man of excellent character, who held the honor and esteem (of) friends and acquaintances. Mr. Balthrope is survived by his wife and three sons, one of whom, Edgar Balthrope, lives across the bay near the home of his father. The other two sons, Harvey and William, live in Kansas and Missouri, and definite announcement as to the time of the funeral will be made when they are heard from."
