Mary Ann was the daughter of Joseph Vanderpool and Lavina "Emma" Mann. She married first, Wheeler Wright, and they had a son, Elsworth Wright. She married second, John William Baker, and they had a total of eleven children.

Mrs. M. A. BAKER DIES: Mrs. Mary A. Baker, 68, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Davidson, 145 Rose Street, this morning at 5 o'clock after an illness of six weeks. Besides her daughter, with whom she made her home, she is survived by two sons, Harlan Baker, of Fayette County, and K. D. Baker, of Midway, and one sister, Mrs. America Shoemaker, of Lee County. Funeral services will be held from Calvary Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev T. C. Ecton officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Lexington Cemetery.
