Laverne attended schools in the Lincoln area and graduated from College View High School in 1940. After graduation she attended Agnes Beauty School in Lincoln.
Laverne lived in Lincoln with her parents while her husband served in the U S Army during World War 11. After his discharge the couple operated Lawson's Beauty Shop in Lincoln. They moved to Raymond until 1970. Then then moved to Shickley and then to Norton KS in 1980.
She worked with her husband in the hog confinement business at Shickley, Raymond and Norton. They moved to Republican City in 1986 and have lived there since that time. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Nov 16, 2007.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1978 her mother in 1995 and sister Iona and husband Earl Birt.
Survivors are her husband Lawson Bird, daughters Norma Jean Steiner of Adams NE, Linda Raye Corum of Crete NE, and Judy Conrad of Garden City KS. brother Norman Vermaas of Greenville TN, seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, sons-in-law Bruce Steiner and Lee Conrad, daughter Linda's friend Tom Farland of Crete, sister-in-law Dea Vermaas of Greenville TN and a host of family and friends.
Burial was in the Naponee Cemetery, Naponee NE.
