She sang in the LaBelle View church choir since the age of 15. Known for her beautiful soprano voice, she was a popular soloist for area weddings, church services and other religious and civic functions. She and Jim both sang with the Civic Choral Society and the Stanton Chorus.

Known affectionately as "Mrs. A," Betty taught Sunday School and counseled the church's Youth Fellowship group during her children's formative years through high school.

She is a former member of the United Methodist Women, YWCA, LaBelle Chapter 414 Order of Eastern Star, and the Serve Others Circle of Kings Daughters and Sons. She was also involved in Love For Children, God's Pantry and Urban Mission Ministry.
