Ed was the son of Amos and Elizabeth (Tate) Martin. His parents died in 1865 and 1864, respectively. Ed was brought up by his uncle, Richard Martin. His sister, Magnolia Louisa Martin Grout, grew up the home of their maternal grandfather, William Augustus Hamilton Tate and his wife, Louisa Cunningham Tate.
Various sources list him under different first names. The 1860 census lists him as Melvin. (This was probably his actual given first name, as his parents would have provided the information.) While in the home of his uncle in 1870, his name is listed as Edmond. However, he appears to have used the name Edward, known to all as Ed, so that is how we list him in family records. His first name was added to his grave marker by his gr grandchildren.
Ed and his wife, Ada Jones, daughter of Thomas Jones and Anis Trusler, spent most of their married life in Orange Twp., Fayette County, Indiana. (Anis was the daughter of James and Anna (Martin) Trusler. Anna Martin was the sister of Ed's grandfather, William Martin.)
Ed and Ada were the parents of three daughter, the eldest being Iva who married James Marshall Cullins. The other two daughters (names unknown) died in childhood and are buried at Columbia Cemetery, Fayette County, IN, with their grandfather, Amos Martin.
