Services for Guy Horace Alford Jr., 84, of Buffalo [Leon Co.], will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Buffalo Funeral Home…. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Mr. Alford was born Oct. 9, 1917 in Creek to Guy H. and Tina Mae Barbee Alford Sr.

Mr. Alford worked for Conoco for 35 years, retiring in 1982 as plant manager. He worked in Rio Grande Valley, Oklahoma and Wyoming. He retired in Wyoming and then moved to Buffalo.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Force. He was a Baptist. He was a Mason and a member of Hope Lodge No. 471, Rio Grande.

Mr. Alford was preceded in death by two sisters, Irma Douglass and Ella Mae Smith. He is survived by his wife, Vera Nell Alford of Buffalo; sons, Jerry Alford of Buffalo and Guy J. Alford of Buffalo; daughter, Amye Alford of Tulsa; brothers, Donald Alford of San Diego and Glenn Alford of Crockett; a sister, Mamie Bean of Pasadena; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren….

Mr. Alford died Monday. He was born in Creek, Houston County. He worked for Conoco for 35 years and retired in 1982 as plant manager. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Force. He was a Baptist. Mr. Alford was a Mason and member of Hope Lodge No. 471.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Nell Alford of Buffalo; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry and DiAnn Alford of Buffalo, and Guy J. Alford of Buffalo; a daughter, Amye Alford of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Donald Alford of San Diego, Calif., and Glenn Alford of Crockett; a sister, Mamie Dean of Pasadena; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren….

T/Sgt. Alford entered AAC in 1941 and served in the USA. He was awarded the GCM, AT and Victory Ribbons. He discharged in 1945. Thank you for your service!
