Willis W. Atwater Dies

The death of Willis W. Atwater occurred suddenly Wednesday, July 14, at his home in King Ferry. Mr. Atwater had not been in good health for about a year, but was as well as usual and he had been about his accustomed duties. While sitting at the breakfast table, his wife noticed that there was something wrong and went to him but in so short a time he had lost consciousness and expired immediately from an affection of the heart.

Mr. Atwater, one of four children of Norman and Phebe Atwater, was born at Atwater, April 30, 1859 and he had always lived in the vicinity and was well known. He married Miss Anna J. Newberry and they were the parents of three children, two sons and one daughter. After his wife's death, he later married Miss Ella Wager.

The deceased was postmaster at Atwater for thirty-five years and five years ago he purchased a home in King Ferry where he has since resided. Mr. Atwater was a member of the Presbyterian church at King Ferry in which he was an active worker, and the F. and A. M. lodge No. 421 and a charter member of O. E. S. lodge both of King Ferry.

He leaves his wife, two sons, Norman B. Atwater of Clifton, N.J., Joseph N. Atwater of King Ferry, and one daughter, Mrs. Ivan Streeter of Venice Center. He also leaves a brother, N. J. Atwater and a sister, Mrs. James I. Young of Atwater.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2:30 o'clock at the house and were largely attended. Rev. S. C. Page, pastor of the Presbyterian church, King Ferry, officiated. Interment was made in the family lot in King Ferry cemetery.

THE GENOA TRIBUNE, Genoa,. New York, Friday Morning, July 23, 1926.
