John David was 1 of 16 childern born to Boyd & Cynthia Belles.He was born in Rockford,IL.
John had 5 brothers,Billy,Brad,Doug,James,
Richard and 10 sisters;Betty,Bonnie,Donna,
Elsie, Janet,Kate,Kim,Kristie,Mary and Sonja.
He enlisted in the Marines 26 June 1967,at the
Chicago Recruiting Office.
When John arrived in Vietnam 11 December 1967,he was assigned to Mortars,1st Platoon,
Echo Company,2nd Battalion,3rd Marine Regiment,3rd Marine Division.
John was slightly wounded 3 May 1968 and
again 31 May,but didn't need to be medevac.
John was seriously wounded and died as a result of a gunshot wound to the body from rifle fire,when the pointman walked into an NVA ambush,about 8 kilometers west of Lang Cam Village,during Operation.
John was single and served his country for 1 year,3 months and 17 days and had been in
Vietnam for 10 months and 2 days.
John was 20 years,1 month and 17 days old.
Survived by his parents;Boyd H & Cynthia A Belles,his 5 brothers and 10 sisters,of 1502 North Western Ave,Chicago,IL.
NOTE:PFC William Druschel and PFC Frederick Horridge were killed during the same NVA ambush.
