Green Daniel Slayton, a pioneer of Indian Territory and Oklahoma, born December 11, 1845 in Trenton, Gibson County, Tennessee, passed away January 9, 1935 at his home after an illness of almost seven months duration, being ninety-one years and twenty-nine days of age. Green was the son of Abel Cain and Nancy Jane (Baily) Hall Slayton, both born in Virginia.
In 1859 with his parents he moved to Randolph County, Arkansas. Green married Margaret Elizabeth Scott, to this union two children were born, James Henry and Mary Isabelle (Belle). Margaret passed away May 20, 1870. His second wife was Luranie Catherine Nix. He then met and married Julia Arcilla Prince on July 16, 1879. The next year they came by wagon trail to Indianola, Indian Territory. They lived and worked on land owned by the McAlester's. In 1892 Green bought the homestead rights to a farm in the Lydia area. In 1908 they bought and moved to their present home "Rockford Farms" just west of Sparks.

When a young man Mr. Slayton united with the Christian church and lived a faithful Christian life ‘til the end. No greater tribute can be paid than the words "a faithful Christian"
