Beatrice Bouchard, 88, a chef who worked for a number of families in Washington and also for the French Embassy, died of renal failure Jan. 19 at Fairfax Hospital. In November she underwent surgery for a broken hip.
Mrs. Bouchard, a resident of Washington, was born in Limerick, Ireland. She came to the United States in 1917 and lived in New York City until moving here in 1921.
She apprenticed as a chef in the household of Andrew Mellon. Other people for whom she worked at different times included Gloria Vanderbilt, Eleanor Patterson and Garvin Tankersley. She worked for the French Embassy for about four years in the 1950s.
Following her retirement as a chef in the late 1960s, Mrs. Bouchard cared for the Vanderbilt residence on Massachusetts Avenue NW until 1976.
She was a member of the parish of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Washington.
Her husband, Emile Bouchard, whom she married in 1927 and who worked with her throughout her subsequent career, died in 1979.
Survivors include one son, Joseph E. Bouchard of Springfield, and six grandchildren.
