Julia Lee Douglas, 84, of Shreveport passed in the company of family on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 7:30 a.m. from respiratory failure as a result of a lengthy battle with multiple health issues.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home located at 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, La. Officiating will be Dr. Jeff Raines of First Baptist Church of Shreveport. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Centuries. Interment will immediately follow the service in Centuries Memorial Park.

Honoring Ms. Douglas as pallbearers will be Mike Douglas, Lee Douglas, Matt Douglas, Keith Douglas, Jim Rebbel, Zach Douglas and Roy Burroughs.

Ms. Douglas was born July 9, 1928 in Glendale, Arizona. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ade Jack and Emma Lee (née McKenzie) Douglas and her sister-in-law, Mildred Douglas. She is survived by loving brothers Raymond Douglas; Eugene Douglas, and wife Marian; Cecil Douglas, and wife Margaret, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Ms. Douglas was a 1945 graduate of Terrebonne High School in Houma, Louisiana where she also began working for Southern Bell. In 1949 she was transferred to Shreveport and spent the rest of her 42-year career with BellSouth. She was an active member of the Pioneers Club and a regular donor to several charities, especially The Providence House, The Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission and the First Baptist Church of Shreveport, where she was a long-time member.

In retirement, Ms. Douglas was an ardent traveler and visited five of the seven continents until her health restricted her to her home. Frequent visits from friends and family brought her great joy for many years and in her final months she found comfort from family caregivers, nephew Mike Douglas, and his wife Roxanne, nephew Lee Douglas, and his wife Lori, and her niece Carole Rebbel and her husband Jim. The family would like to give special thanks to Barbara and Roy Burroughs, Margie Westbrook and the members of her Sunday school class for their many kindnesse
