Born in South Africa on October 31, 1921, Ronald Burt worked at an insurance company after high school and first became interested in the Paulists when Frs. Henry Fisher, Thomas Holloran and Claude Collins gave a mission near his home in 1940.
He entered the Society in 1944, making his first promises no September 8, 1945. He was ordained on May 1, 1951 with classmates Robert A. O'Donnell, John Weber, Edward Whitley, John E. Lynch, William Kenney and George Hagmaier.
After short parish assignments in South Africa and St. Paul the Apostle parish in New York, Fr Burt served as a curate in Los Angeles from 1955-63. He returned to South Africa in the mid-1960's to direct inquiry classes in Johannesburg and given lectures at Blessed Sacrament Parish. In 1964 he became an assistant at Good Shepherd Parish in New York, and remained in uptown Manhattan for the next twenty years.
Fr Burt retired to Vero Beach, Florida, in 1986. Illness precipitated a move to California in his later years and it was there he died at the age of 73 after 43 years as a Paulist priest. He is buried in Paulist plot at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA.
