Webster Fred Allen, passed away January 5, 2006 at a local convalescent hospital. He was 95.
Web was born November 8, 1910 in Burlingame, Calfornia to Fred and Emily Allen. He was the youngest of three children and was preceded in death by his brother, Sherwood and his sister Doris.
He grew up in the Ingleside district of San Francisco and attended Polytechnic high school and San Francisco State College. During those years he played guitar and was a vocalist for a small orchestra - the Commandrians - which played in gigs around the Bay Area.
He married Patricia Louise Prinz in 1934, they remained devoted until her death in 2004. They owned and operated a flower shop in Colma, CA until WWII. He also taught flower arranging in the San Francisco adult education system.
During WWII he worked at the Bethlehem steel shipyards where they produced Destroyer escorts. After the war he became credit manager for over 30 years, working for various firms, including the San Jose Mercury News.
Pat and Web loved to travel throughout the U.S. in their motor home. Web enjoyed swimming and sunning on the beach. He was an avid reader and kept up on current events. He loved his dog Shelly as one of his family.
In 1972, he and Pat moved to Montevalle in Scotts Valley. He was a member of the Board of Directors and president of the association in 1982. He was proud of his work on the Montevalle Mirror newspaper and helped edit the thirty year anniversary history year book. He had a group of close friends at Montevalle and cherished the times they spent together over coffee and conversation.
Web passed away peacefully after saying goodbye to his family. He is survived by his son, Robert K. Allen, granddaughters Sara Seth Allen and Mary Ann Dunlap.
