Eleanor May Bishop, 92, passed away January 7, 2013, in Kennewick, Washington. Eleanor was known all her life as "Sis" by her family. She was named Elnora May by an older sister, but decided early on she wanted to be called Eleanor, so to some of her friends she is Eleanor and to others, Elnora.

She was born May 20, 1920 at Carpenter Lake, North Dakota, the 10th of 15 children. Her parents were Gustav and Susie Nerpel. Eleanor spent her early years on the family farm at Carpenter Lake. She went to school at a country school and helped with the chores of a large farm family, learning to work hard and becoming skilled in the tasks of cooking and keeping a home. She went away from home for high school, and worked as a "hired girl" for other farmers. While working on her uncle's farm, she met the "hired man", Charles Bishop, who she married June 20, 1940.

As a young married couple in 1940, Eleanor and Charles moved to Tacoma, Washington to find new opportunities. While living there, a daughter, Ann, was born in 1942 and a son, Richard, in 1945. Eleanor learned to make the best use of the fruit of the Pacific NW. They would bring boxes of fruit from the Yakima Valley, and soon the jars were full of fruit for the winter. She sewed, baked, scrubbed her house, and took care of her children. Later they moved east of the Cascades. Another son, Ronald Dean, was born in 1953 while living in North Richland. Charles and Eleanor built a home in West Richland where the family lived for many years. Charles passed away in 1986.

In the latter years of her life, Eleanor lived at Parkview Estates, where the staff took great care of her. Tri-Cities Chaplaincy assisted during her final months. The family is grateful to all those who helped with her care.

Eleanor has three surviving siblings: Anne Dunlop of Rolla, ND, Gus Nerpel of West Richland WA, and Maude Abrahamson of St. John, ND. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Ann (Bud) Myers, Richard (Jan) Bishop, Dean (Mary) Bishop. She has 6 grandchildren, Liann Holt, Lonnie Myers, Loren Myers, Lendell Myers, Kara Bishop, Kyle Bishop, and honorary grandchild, Donna Zones. Eleanor has 5 great-grandchildren as well.

Eleanor's funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12 at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home on Union Street in Kennewick, with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday. She will be buried beside her husband at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Donations can be made to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy ( http://www.tricitieschaplaincy.org/Pages/Donating )
