Beatrice May (Hubert) Beverly, of Reading, went to be with the Lord, Friday, November 25, 2011, while a patient in Manor Care, West Reading.
She was the widow of Clarence W. Beverly.
Born August 7, 1911, in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Walter L. and Margaret (Taylor) Hubert. Beatrice recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
Beatrice graduated with honors from Girls High School in Reading. She married James A. Hann and is survived by two daughters: Nina Beverly, of Shillington, Pennsylvania, and Marguerite Joyce Hann-Hyde, of Baltimore, Maryland, with whom she resided. In 1952 she married Clarence W. Beverly of Richmond, Virginia, who passed away in 1976
She was a member of Washington Presbyterian Church, Reading, where she was formerly active in several ministries. Her family was one of several founding families of the church. The Hubert Apartments in Reading were named in honor of her grandfather, Samuel G. Hubert, the first black teacher in the city.
In addition to her daughters, Beatrice is survived by two grandsons
Roscoe M. Jeffries, Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio and Todd Lee Jefferson, Wyomissing, Pa. There are seven great grandchildren: Roscoe Michael, Marguerite, Rheba Michelle, and Joshua Jeffries, all of Cincinnati, Drew January and ZoŽ January Jefferson, both of Baltimore and Mason Lee Jefferson of Wyomissing. There are two step great-grandchildren: Stephen and Kenneth Stocks, both of Cincinnati.
She was predeceased by her brother, Clarence L. Hubert and one granddaughter, Michelle Jeffries.
Celebration of Life Services, officiated by Rev. Laddie J. Benton, will be Friday, December 2, 2011, at 11 a.m., in Washington Presbyterian Church, 715 N. 10th Street, Reading, PA 19604. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of services in the church.
