John Paul Bilak, 81, of Reading, passed away June
11, 2011, at 5:00 am in Golden Living Center.
He was the husband of Phyllis A. (Keller) Bilak and was preceded in death by his first wife, June Marie (Hartraft) Bilak, April 3, 2000.
Born in Kenhorst, he was the son of the late Paul John and Rose I. (Yergo) Bilak.
He was a member of the Air National Guard.
He was a barber at 5th & Penn streets from 1958-1970, then from 1970-1984 at Ye Ole Barber Shop at 4th & Franklin streets, then from 1986-present Bilak's Barber Shop at 19th & Perkiomen Ave.
From 1984-1986 he was the owner of Bilak's Maple Bar in Reading.
He was an avid pilot and owned his own planes at Northside Aviation, loved to paint and owned his own boat.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Steven V., husband of Sharon L. Bilak, of Pennside, and Michael C., husband of Diane Bilak, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, along with his grandchildren: Timothy S., Hannah N., Brandon M., Tommy and Joy.
Also surviving are his sister, Patricia A. Baer, of Reading, and nephews, Ryan and Craig Baer.
He was preceded in death by his son, Eric Scott Bilak.
Services from Bean Funeral Home, 6 Fairlane Road, Exeter Township, Friday at 12:30 pm.
Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday 11:30-12:30 pm.
