Son of George Ninian & Jean Belslyn (Young) Elliot, both of Onterio, Canada. During Jim's childhood his family moved from Kansas to Douglas County, Oregon around 1899. Evidently George and Jean were disappointed by Oregon, because it was not good for wheat farming, but made a move to Lapwai Idaho after one of John's uncles (who worked for the USGS) told them of the great wheat farming outside of Lewiston.
