Birth: Nov. 1, 1812
Orange County
New York, USA
Death: Aug. 5, 1898
Big Flats

John S.Allen was married to Margaret M. Decker
around 1836. They had ten children. He was born in
Orange, New York, worked as a laborer on a farm in
Bradford, Pa around 1850 and then moved to Big Flats, Ny
where his wife was born. He was a stone mason. He is buried
in the Ashland Cem. with his wife Margaret (her parents were Pat or Patty and Garrett Decker), and eldest son
William (wife Mariah-also buried in this cem. with them). His son John died from wounds from the civil war around 1866(He is not buried with them, but I think he is buried in the Woodland Vets Cem. in Elmira by himself as he was not married ). Daughters were Esther,Caroline Elizabeth,Sarah, sons Clark, John, William, Andrew, Peter and Robert. I found one grandaughter, Ida(mother was Esther) in the Bradford, Pa census. John S.'s mother was Mary Miller born around 1795.(Her name is on his death certificate)she could be from the same area or across the
border in nearby Penn. His father might be John Smith Allen born around 1790 but I haven't found him yet. I have an old 1800's bible with many of these names in it. I also
have a picture of William and John in their civil war
uniforms. Email me if you are related or can share additional info on this family at Jan Allen B.
