Born in Southwold, Elgin, Ontario, Canada to Rev. Jacob and Emeline (Wade) Griffin. Emma was one of eight children born to this union.

She married Samuel Freeman Briggs in Hortonville, Outagamie, Wisconsin 16 Sep 1882 at the age of 19. Three children were born to this union - the firstborn, a son, died in infancy; Son Harry Douglas and daughter Elizabeth "Bessie" Estella. This marriage ended in divorce between 1900 - 1903.

She married second Samuel Alexander in Winnebago county, Wisconsin 25 May 1903 at the age of 40. No children were born to this union, however, Samuel had children with his first wife prior to this marriage. This marriage ended in 1916 with Samuel's death.

Emma died Aug 1952 in Janesville, Rock, Wisconsin, and is buried along side of her second husband.
