Stephen, was the son of Steve L. Bobkovich and Anna E. Bobkovich, the brother of Johanna T. Anderson and uncle of Laura Anderson all of Akron OH. SSgt Bobkovich was a Veteran of over twenty years of service in the US Marine Corps and had re-enlisted on April 23, 1962 at Camp LeJeune NC. He arrived in Vietnam on January 3, 1968, and was assigned to Company M, BLT 3/1 (Battalion Landing Team), 9th MAB, 3d MARDIV (Rein) serving as the Platoon Sgt of the 2d Platoon.
"On March 1, 1968 his Company engaged the NVA on Operation NAPOLEON-SALINE during the assault of the Mai Xa Chanh village complex, in Quang Tri Province, Company M met stiff resistance from the NVA, and Lt Kapp's second platoon suffered many casualties. While under heavy enemy fire, moving to the point of the heaviest contact, 2dLt Kapp and SSgt Bobkovich his platoon Sgt were killed in action from a burst of AK-47 by the counter attacking NVA during the battle.
