He was a pupil of Bloomington High School and a former employee of the Showers Company of Bloomington, IN.
He was first stationed at Keesler Field, MS, was transferred to Harlinger, TX, and then to Boise, ID. He was assigned as a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber. From Topeka, KS, the Liberator which carried him to Ireland was flown from the coast of Maine for an overnight stop for final refueling.
He was later killed in action over Germany on June 21, 1944. He was one of the youngest local soldiers to lose his life in WW II. He had been overseas for only two months. He had been in the Army for fifteen months.
