Birth: Nov. 12, 1921
Death: Sep. 26, 2005

On the evening of September 26, 2005, from the comfort of home, William T. Barrett passed away.

Bill was born in 1921, the son of Robert and Hattie Barrett of New Middleton, Tennessee. Upon graduation from Gordonsville High School, he received a football scholarship to UT Martin but didn't attend. With World War II in swing, he entered the United States Air Force and served as a gunner pilot and radio operator for almost three years, with most of his airtime over the Pacific.

After the war, Bill was stationed right outside Savannah, Georgia. It was here he met Audrey Louise Terrell, who became his wife on August 16, 1945. Bill and Louise moved around a bit before Bill decided to pursue his higher education. At Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, he became a college graduate, his B.S. degree in accounting, and a father to son Terrell Frederick. In 1949, Bill and Louise made their home in Dickson and were joined two years later by their daughter Glynda Inez.

Bill was an outstanding citizen, and he played an active role in the Dickson County community throughout the last five decades. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Dickson, and he served numerous roles there over the years: Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School teacher, Building Committee member, and more. As a member of the Rotary Club, he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award and served as President. He was a Chairman of the Dickson Electric System Power Board, and he served on the Board of Directors at First National Bank of Dickson. As an entrepreneur, Bill established Dickson Office Supply in 1959 and later opened Dickson Print Shop. He also earned his CPA and practiced accounting and tax work.

Bill leaves his wife of 60 years, Louise Terrell Barrett; his son, Terry Barrett and wife, Debbie; his daughter, Glynda B. Pendergrass; his grandchildren: Scott, Quent, and Keith Barrett, Mark, Jamey, and Audra Pendergrass; his great grandchildren; Allison, Jake, Sabine (Lulu), Noah, and Julia; his sister, Mrs. Myrtle Vantrease.

Bill was known and loved by many as "Papa Bear". And he will always be loved and remembered by his family as "Paw Paw".

We love you, Paw Paw.
