Clarissa was born in Ancaster Canada. She was the daughter of Joel Elijah Kellogg born abt 1818 and Fannie Jane Lewis. She came to the USA sometime before 1880 as she married Willie Scott in May of that year in Lapeer County MI. After her marriage to Willie they lived with her parents in Lapeer MI for a time as they show up on the Federal Census that yr as living with them.

Clarsa and Willie, her first husband who died at the age of 42 yrs in 1902, had eight children, seven girls, and one boy. To support her family while Willie was sick and after his death, she ran a boarding house in Flint MI, though she had to rent the house in which she ran the boarding house. She was known to be an excellent cook and kept a clean house for the boarders to live in. With the physical and finacial help of her older girls, Jen, Belle, and Grace, Clarissa managed to keep her children together and within her own household through out Willie's illness and after his death.

Clarissa would eventually be the mother to a total of 9 children, 7 girls (now fondly referred" to as "the 7 sisters" and sometimes as the "7 grand ladies") and 2 sons. The youngest of these children, a son named Max Cole, was fathered by Hugh Cole Clarissa's second husband, the remainder were the result of her first marriage to William E Scott. The 1900 records indicate that Clarissa had one child that died before 1900 but there is no family history of that birth and no birth /death certificate has been located to date however, the information was repeated in the 1910 census.

Family stories indicate that Clarissa ran a tight ship, and was a very strict, even cold towards her children. Though this could have been due to the stress of having a terminally ill husband and very young children, being pregnant and trying to financially support the family all at the same time.

Eventually she would marry Hugh Cole, who may have been related in some way to her first mother-in-law, Eliza Cole Scott Hoover.Hugh and Clarissa would raise their child and Clariss'a younger children on a farm in Vasser Tuscola County MI.

Physically Clarissa had dark hair that turned snow white by the time she reached 40 yrs of age. She was very petite both in girth and hight. She also had a Canadian Accent with a hint of a Scottish lilt.
