The grave marker has been identified as damaged by accidental indirect/direct weapon fire according to a newspaper article by the Watertown Daily Times Newspaper (Watertown, NY), dated June 22, 1996, "Woman Leads Fight to Repair Fort Drum Graves," written by David C. Shampine.
