A lovely tribute to Poppa by Charles Arnold:
This gentlemen came in my office a number of years ago who was a close friend of my father. We sat around and he reminisced about how life was when he and my father were just young boys growing up at Pearson Chapel. During times around 1916-17. Life was different in the country. He told me he thought my grandfather was the meanest man in the world. I ask him what he meant by that and he told me the story that the first time he could remember eating supper with my father, after they had finished eating, everybody got up from the supper table and went into the living room my grandfather picked up the lamp and took the light with him into the living room and left my grandmother to clean up the kitchen in the dark. Little did he know at that time she was blind and didn't need a lamp to see. He later found out she was blind. She raised six kids.She played the organ and piano at church. She went blind when she was six years old. I was reading the Houston County Courier in the article about "blast from the past" it told of her being blind and playing the piano at Georgia Camp, Creek church back in the late 1800's. Her name was Lucy, Lucy Sanders when she went blind. She married Ed Arnold my grandfather, he was known around town as "Grandpaw" I called him "Poppa".
Mr Arnold was a 91 year old farmer living at 106 Lazy Lane, Crockett when he passed away. He was the son of Doss and Armanda Arnold.
