James Emmett Harrison, Jr. was the son of James Emmett Harrison, Sr. and Margaret Estelle Bell. He had two siblings: William Lee (Billy) Harrison and (still living; name withheld; brother) Harrison.
James Emmett Harrison, Jr. graduated with a B. A. in English from the University of Richmond on August 13, 1962. He became an English teacher in New Kent County, Virginia and then transferred to Prince George High School, Prince George County, Virginia where he taught English, Speech and Theatre for five years.
He gave up teaching and started writing full-time plays at home. During this time, he also worked 53 12-hour days as a traffic checker for the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation.
His play "Goodbye, But I Was Happy Here" won the Virginia Playwright's Competition sponsored by Swift Creek Mill Playhouse and WCVE-TV. It was performed twice in late May 1981 at Swift Creek Mill Playhouse.
He passed away at his home.
