Ruby Shurtz has an unmarked grave. I was facing east standing at the foot of her grave as I took this picture. If she had a headstone, it would be in between the two on the right and left at the middle of the picture. Straight ahead although not visible in this picture is the back side of the Morris Hill Mausoleum. Anna's father Arthur's grave is directly behind me; the graves are foot to head, rather than side by side.
I have been informed by the sexton of another cemetery that custom dictates that when a married couple are buried in head-to-foot graves rather than in side-by-side graves, the second one buried will be buried with his or her head next to the head of the other spouse, rather than orienting with feet to the other spouse's head. I have seen this several times in the local cemeteries. I do not know whether this custom is followed in the case of parents and children.
