Learn about upgrading this memorial...
Birth: 1942
Rome
Lazio, Italy
Death: Aug. 19, 1966
Lucca
Toscana, Italy

His real name was Roberto Di Napoli. He was an Italian singer-songwriter and bacame famous to have sung paired up with Paul Anka in the "Festival of Sanremo", on January 31, 1964. Son of a well-known Roman dentist, he sudied law at University. His father wanted him to follow his career but Roby didn't like it, he loved music, he had studied piano for 6 years, when in 1962 Alberto Sordi introduced him to the talent-scout Franco Migliacci who had just formed a group of young singers, including Gianni Morandi. His first performance was in a "Rock'n'roll festival" at the Teatro Sistina in Rome. He was successful, but became more famous as a song-writer rather than a singer. Among the songs he wrote there is "Alla mia etą", sung by Rita Pavone, "Ogni volta", sung by Paul Anka, "Ti vorrei parlare" and "I nuovi angeli". During the last period of his life he formed a group of orchestra players and sang "beat" music. He died in consequence of a dreadful car accident, while coming home from a night spent singing at a night club, "La Bussola" in Versilia, Tuscany. He seemed to have lost control of his "Mercedes", maybe because of a fit of drowsiness, they still are not sure. The car got to the emergency lane, crashed through the guardrail and overturned on the impact, bouncing and finally getting in a slope. On the first impact the car bounced almost at a distance of 20 meters. Someone called the ambulance: there were also two other people in the car, friends of his. They were in shock but still alive. Roby, unfortunately, died on the way to the hospital of Lucca.
