|Birth: ||Sep. 6, 1882|
|Death: ||Oct. 28, 1905|
Fifth child of my great, great, grandparents, John Paradise Bennett and Sarah Inez Collier.
The 1900 Census of Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas, listed this child, in the home of John (Paradise) Bennett as follows:
BENNETT John - Son - White - Male - Born Sept. 1882 - Age 17 - Single - Born in Arkansas - Father born in Tennessee - Mother born in Kentucky - At School
This 1900 census record, the ONLY census record for this child, clearly indicates this child was a son of John Paradise Bennett.
Yet two books which I have in my possession, both of which detail this Bennett family, listed this child as a daughter of John Paradise Bennett and Sarah Inez Collier. However neither book went into any detail on this child, other than date of birth, and date of death - whereas all of the other children were covered in detail.
My paternal grandmother, who was a niece of Johnie Bertha Bennett, but was only five years old when this child passed away in 1905, scribbled in a handwritten note on this child (in one of the two books) which was written as follows: "engaged to Lee Henry, John Rose's uncle"
It turns out that the two books were correct, and the census record was incorrect. I can say that with certainty now because I have three old photographs of the entire family of John Paradise Bennett - and in all three photos this child is identified as "Bertha" and it is clear that this child was one of the DAUGHTERS of J. P. Bennett and Sarah Inez Collier.
