William Stover Graves, born March 1, 1920 in Newburyport, MA, died peacefully at his home in Bellingham, WA during the early morning hours of February 7, 2011, just three weeks short of his 91st birthday. He had been surrounded by friends and family during the last few days of his life.
Bill had a long and diverse career that included military service, sign painting and, as a design engineer, working on projects that varied from military aircraft to roller coasters. He loved life and all of the challenges that came with it. He often said that he had such a "great ride" that he "would like to go 'round one more time".
An avid baker, Bill was very proud of the many ribbons and awards he had won across the country for his cheesecakes and cookies. For many years he sent out over forty pounds of fudge to friends and family at Christmas time.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki, of 44 years; daughters, Kay Levy (Richard), of Bellingham, WA, Lynn Neilsen (Jerry), of Santa Cruz, CA, and Diane Graves (Carl Dolk), of Sacramento, CA; granddaughter, Erica Neilsen, of Los Angeles, CA; stepdaughter, Darlene Pearson (Wayne); and numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
Private memorial service and scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.
