West Lafayette--M. Vernon Addy, 90, of 21578 Ohio 93, died at 11:57 p.m. Thursday Dec. 19, 2002, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born June 20, 1912, in Guernsey County, to the late Marshall and Etta (Ingram) Addy.

Mr. Addy attended Cambridge High School and Canton Actual Business School. He retired from the grocery business, Addy Mower Sales, and as postmaster of the Plainfield Post Office after 47 years of employment there. Mr. Addy also received a Purple Heart while serving in the U. S. Army during World War II in the European and Pacifice theaters.

He was a member of West Lafayette United Methodist Church, Men's Bible Class, Masonic Lodge of West Lafayette, Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge through which he received the Meritorious Award, York Rite, Aladdin Shrine and the American Legion. He was an avid Ohio State University basketball and football fan and Indians baseball fan.

On June 20, 1936, he married Lois Sprague, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, William (Donna) Addy of Plainfield; two grandchildren, Mike and finance, Lisa Lahna, and Kim; one sister, Ada Gray of West Lafayette, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys, Lois, and Stella.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002 at West Lafayette United Methodist Church with pastors James Woodring and Paul Gerycz officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette. Coshocton County Veterans Council will conduct graveside services.

Calling hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at Given-Dawson Coshocton Funeral Home, one hour prior to Monday's services at the church. A Masonic service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
