Darvel is survived by his wife, Ruby (Carroll) Barrett of Beattyville and by three sons, Tommy Barrett of Ellijay, GA, Lawrence Barrett of Beattyville, KY and Billy Ray Barrett of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by two brothers, Delton Barrett of McKee, KY and Bradley Barrett of OH and by two sisters, Carlie McQueen of McKee, KY and Pearlie Suddler of FL. Darvel was blessed with three grandchildren, Shana, Alicia & Jared.
In addition to his parents, Darvel was also preceded in death by his son, Russell Paul Barrett and by a brother, Amoel Barrett.
Darvel was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of the local D.A.V. Jack Welch Chapter #165.
Funeral service was held 2:00PM Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Crabtree and Bro. Keith Hensley officiating. Burial followed in the New Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jared, Tommy, Lawrence & Billy Barrett, Danny Todd & Wilmer Ward. Military services were conducted by the following members of the local D.A.V. Jack Welch Chapter #165 Rev. B.J. McKinney, Jim Bryant, Leon Bales, David Gray, Shane Morris, Donald Harrison, Bobby Lakes, Pam Barrett, Fred Sandlin, Earl Coffey, Mike Montgomery & Robert Scholten. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
