The grandson of one of the early settlers of Springfield and Greene County died Saturday afternoon in St. John's Hospital.
He was Jake Painter, 90, a longtime resident of Nixa and a retired welder and farmer. His grandfather, Jake Painter, was one of the first settlers of Springfield and Greene County.
Mr. Painter died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday following a long illness. He was a member of the James River Chapel Church of Christ. His wife, Stella, died less than three weeks ago.
Survivors include three sons, Claud, Branson, Ray, Nixa and Leslie, Vinita, Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Inman, Kansas City, and Mrs. Marcia Haworth, Nixa; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Harris Chapel at Nixa with Evangelist Edward Buttram officiating. Burial will follow in the McConnell Memorial Cemetery near Nixa.
